HILLERÖD
Hilleröd is a middlesized municipality with 37.000 inhabitants, placed only 30 minutes drive from Copenhagen,Denmark . Today Hillerød is a centre for business, trade and cultural development and the municipality is working hard for creating the best frames for the life of its inhabitants, as well as for innovation and development of new ideas in the private and public sector.
In Hilleröd, the experience from the SECURE project will be utilised to create awareness on energy savings and optimised energy supply strategies from the citizens. The Hilleröd Electricity, Water and Heating company is working in close co-operation with Cenergia and SolarVent, who will be a subcontractor to Cenergia. One of the energy focus areas in Hilleröd is the Ullerødbyen, an urban development area with the aim to develop 51 passive house dwellings and 672 eco-dwellings. The objective is to have energy savings of electricity with 1700 MWh/year and heat with 2200 MWh/year.

Jens Lundig from the Hillerød Electricity, Water and Heating wrote for the third SECURE Newsletter:

For many years the work with sustainable energy in Hillerød was done by a few persons in the environmental department, but since the SECURE project started, and the utility started a dialogue about the energy action plan, the interests about sustainable energy has increased a lot. There were many minor sustainable projects, when the secure project began in 2006, but only a few had ended successfully. Now the SECURE project is one of the minor sustainable projects, and nearly all departments in the municipality are in someway involved in sustainable energy projects. There have also been established different working groups, which focus on how to increase the production of renewable energy, and how to reduce the consumption of energy, produced by fossil fuels. The working groups include employees from the municipality, the local energy companies, contractors, factory owners, etc.The ideas for the Energy Action Plan (EAP) has changed a number of times because of the increased focus on sustainable energy, and now the EAP is needed more than ever to create a red line for the new energy projects in Hillerød.So far, the activities in the SECURE project have been a big help in the work with the EAP in Hilleröd, and we have been able to use many of the tools and findings that other project partners have developed in the SECURE. After the summer holidays the actual process of writing the Energy Action Plan begins, and our hope is that the employees in Hillerød will accept it as the fundament in their future work with energy issues. At the implementation stage, at the end of the project, we hope that the team work in the SECURE project will help us to continue the success we have experienced so far.
