A number of cities in Europe have implemented holistic projects in order to transform city districts to ecological sustainability. However, the projects have mostly ended as isolated cases not putting any stamps on the prevalent ways of working. The SECURE project aims at mainstreaming the ways of working in the demonstration projects from being unique actions to becoming the normal way of working.

A structured benchmarking is made between different urban sustainable energy projects in order to gain knowledge on different important success factors. The experiences from earlier ecological transformation projects are used in order to create long-term sustainable energy action plans. The plans will be produced in co-operation with different stakeholders in the cities. A number of long-reaching concepts such as "passive houses" and "a carbon neutral city" will be assessed and implemented in the cities in order to achieve sustainable energy systems with an increased share of energy from renewable sources, reduced energy consumption and reduced environmental impact.

SECURE is a so-called ‘horizontal' project, a project which concentrates on the 'Horizontal Key Actions' of the ‘Intelligent Energy -Europe´ (IEE) Programme. IEE is a main means of converting EU policy for smart energy use and more renewables into action on the ground, addressing today´s energy challenges and promoting business opportunities and new technologies.

To the left you have a number of links that will take you to the project activities. If you want to receive a regular update subscribe to the SECURE Newsletter by following the link Newsletter. News about various events that are organized with connection to project activities are regularly posted under the link: Events. There you can also find information about previous events.
